Project

National Road “Samos – Karlovasi”, “Blami” Bridge Section

Location: Samos Island, Greece
Client: Prefectural Administration of Samos
Date: 2004-2009
Construction costs: approx. € 1,6 million
Technical Details

The project involves the construction of a new bridge to replace the existing “Blami” Bridge, which is part of the “Samos–Karlovasi” National Road. It is located in the northeastern part of the island of Samos, at an elevation ranging from 21 to 41 meters.

The current alignment at the bridge location is problematic and hazardous. This, combined with increased traffic volume – particularly during the summer – makes the project both essential and urgent.

The new bridge is necessary to span the existing stream and improve the characteristics of this section of the road. It is a single-span structure, measuring 43 m in length and 12.5 m in width. The deck consists of a pre-stressed hollow box, supported by abutments with bearings. To ensure stability and durability, a deep foundation system with piles has been implemented.
